Here you'll find answers to our most frequently asked questions.

Genral Questions

Who are these stories for?

Everyone. However, they’ll appeal more to fans of the sci-fi, horror, and Stephen King-esque genres.

I’m an animator and interested in bringing your stories to life. How can we collaborate?

For now, we can get the conversation started via email. Please see the contact page.

I’m a visual artist and would like to create still images for your artwork. Do you pay?

Yes, but it’s best to talk terms and price first via email. Please see the contact page.

I’m a musical artist and would like to make music inspired by your stories. Do you pay?

This is a little more complex but, as a songwriter myself, always happy to discuss. Let’s chat via email through the contact page.

I want to write a story for this site. How do I do it?

Email it to me, if I think it's good, I'll post it. If not, I'll reply saying it's not accepted or ask for edits.

But the real question is, why would any writer put their content online for the world to read for free or have their work stolen and published under someone else's name.

For my thoughts, see the Q&A below.

How are the piracy risks of putting my content online managed?

Disclaimer: Filler Free Fiction does not warrant or guarantee that anything posted on this site won't be stolen by bad actors. That said, here's a list of reasons why writers might prefer to post their content online for free anyway:

1. Posting about half a novel could be an advertising tool to build a loyal fanbase who might want to pay the author to read the rest of the novel.

2. If a short story is posted by an author with their name and photo, there will be a public record of it online and if someone steals it later, the author can point to the webpage or use internet archive to prove they wrote it a particular point in time.

Sidenote: I personally don't want to steal anyone's stories but if you're still worried, you could always prove the theft by showing your sent items to the judge when you take me to court. It'll be very easy to trace me from my email address.

3. Only really short stories can be posted to build a following. You can boost your social media content by adding links to your article on this website or others like Lightspeed magazine if you were published there.

4. As the volume of marketable content on this site grows, it'll attract publisher attention and increase the exposure of new authors.

5. It's a good motivator to write more often and is better than doing nothing. Also, you don't bear any of the back-end costs like domain name, hosting or tech-support.

What do you mean by filler?

Okay, so think about your favorite TV show or movie and how overall it's good but some parts just drag on with boring scenes or the characters spending copious amounts of time talking about how they feel about a particular development. We call that filler. Our stories are bare bones and aim to get the balance right in terms of giving the readers the satisfaction of absorbing a good narrative as efficiently as possible.

How can I donate to this project?

I mean I'd love to take your money to cover the domain and hosting costs, creative software costs etc. but you should probably donate to Gaza or Sudan, they definitely need the money more than I do.
